Team Coaching Process
An Example a Team Coaching Engagement
The leadership team of a small company is working through the transition of the company leadership. A suggested engagement may be to meet as a team for four half-day sessions once a week followed by two sessions every other week.
Sessions would focus on:
- Establishing the vision, values, and mission of the team
- Self and other assessments of strengths, values, and leadership capabilities of the leadership team members
- A 360 degree assessment of each team member
- Evaluation of the team culture
- Establish how the team will work together
- Communication procedures
- Accountability processes
- Goal setting and action planning
Second Example
A high performing software development team just delivered a project and received several awards for its outstanding performance. The team leader received a promotion and two programmers were moved to work with other less experienced teams. The result is a promotion from within the group for the new leader and two new entry-level team members being added to the team. Of the team of eight, four members are new or are in new positions.
This was a high performing team, however in reality after the changes is a completely different team. A coach was brought in to work the team through the reorganization and get them of to a good start. The sessions will define what short and long-term success looks like and how the team needs to function to achieve that success. This engagement took place over several half day sessions.
Each team engagement is customized based on the needs of the team. Coaching can vary from one day events to several days spread out over a couple of months. At times individual coaching for the leader is also part of the process to support the new leader.
